Many of you have reached out to me, to the Board, and to the Staff sharing your heartfelt concerns for our beloved, forever friend Arie Lipsky.  You know that he suffered a pinched nerve last November and continues to struggle with its complications. Please continue to send him your best, your notes, your positive energy.  We all continue to hope and pray for his complete recovery.

His decision to resign was yet another act of his leadership.  It showed his love for his orchestra, and his wanting for us as an organization to move forward. It was Arie’s personal challenge to all of us that we do our “very best for continued exceptional music-making.”  With his compelling message, we move forward.

Arie designed the repertoire for this 91st season. It is brimming with time-honored classics, exciting pops, and fresh compositions by the next generation of classical composers.  You will enjoy the carefully selected nationally and internationally known guest conductors making great Music with outstanding guest artists and the excellent A2SO musicians.  I look forward to experiencing these concerts with you.

This month we started what will be a two-year, national search process for our next Music Director.  It begins with the position being announced, then reviewing applications, and then winnowing the candidate pool to those who will conduct one of our concerts in the 2020-2021 season. (It’s Beethoven’s 250th Birthday year, so look forward to some moving Music.)

You have a key role in the search process for your next Music Director.  There will be regular focus groups who will be meeting the finalists during the week they are here to conduct.  Your feedback at their concerts will be important to share and we look forward to working with you in this important moment in A2SO history.

My best to each of you, and I look forward to seeing you at opening night with Emanuel Ax, if not before at the A2SO office, an upcoming Instrument Petting Zoo, a farmer’s market or while walking Mackinaw and Reme.

Be well, Mary
