Orchestra Librarian InternSHIP

(September – December 2021)

The Orchestra Librarian Intern will work directly with the Director of Personnel & Librarian to provide support for the day-to-day functioning of the Ann Arbor Symphony library. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to gain experience in the dynamic environment of an orchestra library. This internship is unpaid and requires a commitment of 10-15 hours each week. 

Things you’ll work on:

  • Transferring bowings and other markings from principal string parts
  • Fixing page turns, photocopying, and scanning
  • Marking errata in parts
  • Cataloguing and maintaining A2SO library holdings
  • Preparing orchestra folders for distribution
  • Managing and tracking orchestra personnel in Microsoft Access database
  • Assist elsewhere as needed

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Ability to read music and working knowledge of orchestral literature
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Docs
  • Compliance with all A2SO COVID protocols & venue (concert hall/school) policies
  • COVID vaccinations are highly encouraged; unvaccinated interns will need to submit proof of a negative test every seven (7) days.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Obtained or is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance/Music Education or a related field
  • Knowledge and understanding of string bowings and technique
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently

Compensation and Commitment :

  • A flexible schedule of 10-15 hours per week beginning September 2021
  • This internship will require mostly in-person work at our Ann Arbor office with some remote work depending on the project
  • This is an unpaid internship

  • Director of Personnel & Librarian

COVID-19 specifics:

  • Currently, the Ann Arbor Symphony is working in a hybrid office format and conducts most meetings remotely but will transition back to in-person operations for Fall 2021.
